RADIUS
A superhero universe from the last place you’d look for one.
Three volumes in print. Awarded in Brazil. Owned by its creator.
Scroll to beginChapter one: the year 3121
The year is 3121.
The city is Marília Metropolitana.
RADIUS is a science fiction superhero saga set nearly eleven centuries from now, in a metropolis that grew out of a real city in the Brazilian interior. At its center is Lukas Xagas.
It did not come out of New York or Burbank. It was created and published independently, by one person, a long way from any comics industry.

This is where it came from.
Chapter two: 1996
Marília, in the interior of São Paulo, Brazil.
A teenager draws a superhero at his public high school. He is around fourteen.
There is no money, no training and no industry within reach. The project is shelved.
The character is not.
He grows up. He builds a creative agency. In 2010, with nothing published, he files for the RADIUS trademark anyway.
He keeps the drawings.
July 2, 2022
RADIUS Volume 1 is published.
26years after the first drawing.
Then Volume 2. Then the awards.
A man who would not let go of a character. That would be a good story.
It isn’t the whole story.
Chapter three: April 12, 2020
We skipped a year.
2020
The world shuts down. Tiago goes back to the old files and decides to make RADIUS for real, twenty-four years after he first drew him.
On April 12, he adopts a dog.
His name was Pituco.
He was not a character. He was not in the comic, and he was not part of any plan. He was a real dog who arrived the same year an old dream woke up.
July 2022
Volume 1 is published. Pituco is there.
2023
The first awards. Pituco is there.
March 2024
Volume 2. Pituco is there.
days. That is how long they had.

July 8, 2024
8:03 PMPituco is hit by a car. He does not survive.
Eighty-two days later, RADIUS Volume 3 is published.
Tiago keeps going. What no one expects is that Pituco does too.

Pituco was the hero life gave him.
One story.
This is not a comic book with a sad footnote. It is not a dog story with a comic attached.
It is a superhero universe with a true story at its center. Spectacle on the outside. Something real inside.
Where a conversation could start
- The universe
- RADIUS as a science fiction feature or series. Marília Metropolitana, 3121. Three volumes of source material and room to build.
- The true story
- A creator, a thirty-year idea and a dog who was there for four of those years. The kind of story people repeat to each other.
- Both at once
- A film that moves between the hero on the page and the man drawing him, and lets each one explain the other.
Starting points, not prescriptions.

See for yourself
Why this is on your screen.
Plenty of companies know how to stage spectacle. Far fewer are built on the idea that spectacle only matters when there is a person at the center of it.
This is a story about a character carried by his creator for decades. About a loss that became something larger than the loss. About strength and vulnerability in the same frame, and about continuing when stopping would have been easier.
That is the territory Balboa Productions works in. It is why this presentation was made for you first.
No decision is being asked for here. Only a look.
